Central Park West Apartment

New York, New York

With grown children and demanding city-based jobs, it was time for this couple to find a Pied-a-Terre in Manhattan. Two adjacent apartments with views of Central Park were combined to create a modern space where they could live and entertain. A former studio apartment was converted to a spacious master suite. The open floor plan of the living room and kitchen includes a wall of sliding panels that create a guest bedroom when needed, complete with hidden murphy bed. The translucency of the panels prevents the abundant light from being blocked, while still providing sufficient privacy for guests. When not in use, the sliding panels hide away into a nearby closet, revealing the Central Park view from all points in the room. The kitchen includes built-in appliances, and custom high-gloss, two-toned lacquer cabinetry. A ventless ethanol fireplace with custom stainless surround adds to the sharp interior finishes, creating a livable, modern space.
