The goal of this apartment combination was flawless integration of old and new spaces, which was achieved by reconfiguring and redirecting circulation, ultimately creating a vast but comfortable three-bedroom apartment. The client’s Italian heritage was a natural springboard for design. Their classic style, with an international twist, became the basis for many elements. Going beyond the traditional architectural shell, the fine interior details and finishes were achieved to reflect the personal aesthetic of the client. Structural challenges were embraced by using an existing concrete column in the Kitchen to anchor the new island and feature wall. Inspired by furniture already owned by the client, the feature wall of blackened metal and stained ash became a backdrop for the Living / Dining space, and the focus of the apartment.
